Natural Solutions for Heartburn and Acid Reflux
Heartburn and acid reflux are no fun, and if you’re one of the more than 15 million Americans experiencing symptoms every day, you know just how disruptive they can be. With all the research coming out about the risks of acid reducers and PPIs, it’s clear we need smarter, gentler ways to manage acid reflux without causing more harm.
Here’s the good news: acid reflux often isn’t caused by too much acid, it’s caused by too little. Poor digestion, low stomach acid, and inflammation are usually at the root of the problem. When we address those, symptoms can improve dramatically.
1. Boost Your Stomach Acid
Supporting your stomach’s natural acid levels can make a huge difference. Two of my favorite strategies:
Betaine HCL supplements – These provide natural stomach acids to help break down your food properly.
Apple cider vinegar – Take about 2 ounces twice a day, diluted if needed. This is a simple, natural way to support digestion.
2. Support Digestion
Once your stomach acid is working properly, efficient digestion helps prevent food from lingering in the stomach and triggering reflux. High-quality digestive enzymes can make a big difference here. The Liver Gallbladder Complex in my store provides targeted enzyme support to help your body break down food more effectively — one of my go-to tools for reducing reflux naturally.
3. Calm Inflammation
Inflammation can worsen reflux symptoms, so keeping it in check is key. I recommend organic aloe vera juice, about 2 ounces twice a day. Make sure it’s free of added sugar; my favorite is Lily of the Desert. You’ll be amazed at how much this simple addition can calm your symptoms.
When we tackle acid reflux at the root (supporting stomach acid, improving digestion, and reducing inflammation) symptoms don’t just go away temporarily, they improve for the long term.
